Petrolicious blog

I recently came across a blog somewhat different to most other car blogs. Petrolicious is a blog that elegantly fills the world-wide web with beautifully filmed and edited videos about people who are passionate about the special cars they call their own.

You rarely see modern cars on this blog, it is all about classic cars of all sizes and from all around the world as the website would suggest; “We celebrate the inventions, the personalities, and the aesthetics that ignite our collective lust for great machines. We are fans and fanatics, collectors and racers. We seek to inform, entertain, and inspire our community of aficionados and pique the interest of those who have been missing out.”

Their slogan ‘Take a ride. Entertain your passion. Drive tastefully.’  is something every motoring enthusiast should live by.

All videos I have seen are works of art and balancing shots of the car with the interview with the owner.

the all time favourites from this blog which I hope they won’t mind me sharing are:

Car Throttle

Car Throttle is a website. It’s a pretty good website.  I could just stop there really, but then you won’t get the full grasp of what the site is all about. To me Car Throttle has taken a car website, something that most tech savvy people can create and turned it into something cool. Something that is a hit with the age group that lust over cars. Mainly the ones that can’t drive or who have just started.

Something I love about their car reviews, which I only came across a few days ago is that you can automatically tweet what you think about the car directly to the guys. Another thing they have, is gauge at the end where you can rate the car on how good it looks, how much you want to drive the car and how much you want to own that particular car.

They tackle all areas that some other car sites may not. They do the usual, car reviews, test videos and interviews but they delve into gaming, and there are some features that as guys have always talked about, but never actually got to read about them in standard car mags. Making something so simple, fun and interesting for people who might not make that much of a difference to the car world as they either don’t have enough money to buy most cars or are given a hand me down. That’s what it is all about!

To me Car Throttle is the perfect mix between Max Power in its best days and can I say Pistonheads.

check it out here and I guarantee you won’t be disappointed.

Jaguar F-Type Launch

Most cars are officially revealed to the world at major car shows namely Geneva. Jaguar have chosen to do it a little differently for years. The E-type comes to mind, where they revealed the car the day before the opening of the Geneva show at a restaurant involved a crane lifting a shipping crate to reveal the car – unusually dramatic for the time.

Recently, Jaguar came out and told the world that the F-Type will be officially revealed at the Paris Motor Show at the end of this September.

The F-Type will be first released as a convertible. The smallest motor confirmed for the F-Type is an all-new 3.0-litre petrol V6 – with a supercharger. It will come in 340hp and 380hp guises. Now in saying this, the biggest engine will be the revised version of its supercharged 5.0-litre V8. 500hp ought to be enough.

all models will be rear wheel drive with an eight speed gearbox.

Motoring Pornography

A car which is sexy has one element that makes it different to any other car. what is that little ingredient you ask?

Italian Flair.

A car made in Italy has something completely different to all the other cars on the planet. this is what makes them so loved and hated at the same time. Yes, the Germans are precise, and the Asians know how to get as much power out of a tiny engine but the Italians have something about style and may I dare say ‘soul’.

this brings me to a car I came across when scouring the internet. The Ferrari Xezri concept. Now this concept didn’t come first in the Ferrari World Design contest of 2011, but it is stunning nonetheless.

according to the designer,  Samir Sadikhov from Azerbaijan,  “it was an idea of designing a model that a synthesis of its technological knowledge and its sporting experience.”

Based on a Ferrari 458 Italia, Samir chose to go with a monocoque seat known as ‘ Mono-seat’ which was inspired by jet fighters and race cars along with the need to save weight.

This car won’t be a car to take your friends to scare the living daylights out of them like the Mclaren F1 which has a monocoque seat and then two rear seats.

Even the instrument panel was structured around that of a fighter jet.

The car has movable body parts for aerodynamic purposes and to help direct cold air to the radiators.

as this is only a concept, no-one will know when it will be released or if it will remain as a rendered image.

if you would like to read the full story on the ‘Xerzi’ you can take a look of Samir’s website.

Landrover DC100 concept

After my last post of the wrecked super car, I started to get chills looking at a lovely machine smashed up into a box so I thought it was only fitting for this post to be about a new machine.

Landrover have been gracing our roads and our fields for over 60 years first launched in 1948. It was updated in the 1980s with the 90,110 and 127 referring to its lengths in inches.

After 60 years dominating the market for rugged off roaders, they are getting an update due to be released in 2015. Gerry McGovern, Land Rover’s Director of Design, says: “Replacing the iconic Defender is one of the biggest challenges in the automotive design world; it is a car that inspires people worldwide. The DC100 isn’t a production-ready concept, but the beginning of a four-year journey to design a relevant Defender for the 21st century.”

it looks a little too modern for me to make it as a rugged off roader that can handle the wear and tear of life for over 60 years. there are still LandRovers on the road today from the 1940s that actually run better than some of the new cars today.

But as all car manufacturers have been pushing for fewer emissions, it was only time for the gas guzzling, coal-burning to drive its last drive to its grave.

Need a place for your wrecked supercar?

This post won’t appeal to the people like me who cannot afford to buy a super car unless it is at 1:18 scale.

But for the few super rich who have had an accident in their super car and there are quite a few of you. Do us poor people a favour and don’t just leave the wreck on the side of the road or completely forget about it. Do what this great designer did….. and keep the memories with you forever.

Charly Molinelli is the designer and he decided to take a wrecked ferrari and put it in a wooden box wrapped in whatever material you wish and then covered it with a glass pane. Works well as an ice breaker at a party.

Things you will need:

enough money to crash your own super car

A great sense of humour to keep it in your living room.

Going to be doing anything naughty this weekend?

If you are thinking of being a naughty boy or girl on the road this weekend, i am hoping that you wont see this in your rearview mirrorThis is a new undercover police car being built by an American organisation called EVI. This organisation is run by an ex secret service agent so he knows what he wants in his car for a chase. No details of the cars power or the tech going into it have been released just yet but as soon as they do be sure to check out the update.

Doesn’t it look mean?
