Lucid Motors has revealed its production ready Lucid Air saloon, a true all-electric vehicle to take the fight to Tesla and potentially knock it off its throne.
Offered in three versions for 2021; Air Touring, Air Grand Touring and the special edition Air Dream Edition. The Dream edition is the most powerful, fitted with a dual-motor with 1,080hp and the comms team wanted to state that it will do the quarter mile in under 10 seconds over and over, and 0-60mph in 2.5 seconds.
It will be available in a Dream Edition-exclusive Eureka Gold finish, fitted with an exclusive “Santa Monica” themed interior trim package, including full Nappa grain Bridge of Weir leather throughout and silvered Eucalyptus wood accents. The Dream Edition will also feature a unique 21-inch “AeroDream” wheel design and be highlighted by special badging and trim that marks its position as a limited-production halo edition of the Lucid Air.
The Touring and Grand Touring Editions are both capable of over 400 miles of range with 406 and 571 miles respectively and able to both hit 60mph in under 3.5 seconds. Compare that with the Tesla Model S Long Range Plus and that comes in at 402 miles range but is also a little cheaper at $74,990.
The Lucid Air is now considered the world’s fastest charging EV capable of up to 20 miles per minute when connected to a DC Fast Charging network, meaning owners can get up to 300 miles of range in about 20 minutes. It is also considered to be the most aero efficient luxury car with a drag co-efficient of 0.21.
Inside, the Lucid Air features ‘DreamDrive’ the first system of its kind to offer 32 sensors, covering vision, radar and ultrasonics, plus the world’s first standard high-resolution LIDAR in an EV, all working alongside the standard DMS and geo-fenced HD mapping to provide the safest possible approach to Level 2 and Level 3 driver assistance technologies.
Inside the driver is met with plenty of glass, a 34-inch curved Glass Cockpit 5K display that “floats” above the dashboard, contributing to the light and airy feel of the interior. In addition, a retractable central Pilot Panel sits close to the driver for deeper control of the vehicle’s systems and functions. Alongside all the screens, multiple tactile physical controls for those important settings.
The Lucid Air models is available to preorder to customers in the US, Canada, select European countries and the Middle East now with a $1,000 refundable deposit.
